What is CBD?

What is CBD?

There's a lot of buzz out there about CBD and hemp. Along with the buzz can come some confusion so let's try to clear it up.

CBD is derived from the Cannabis sativa plant. Cannabis sativa has been cultivated throughout recorded history and used as a source of industrial fiber, food, seed oil, recreation and medicine. Each part of the plant is harvested differently, depending on the purpose of its use.

There are two species of Cannabis sativa, and you've probably heard of them both: Hemp and Marijuana.

What's the Difference?

There are 113 naturally occurring active compounds found in the Cannabis sativa plant, but currently the two most talked about are CBD and THC.
CBD is short for cannabidiol.
THC is short for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol.
CBD is not psychoactive. THC is.
CBD will not get you high or make you feel euphoric or sedated in any way. THC will and is the compound that makes you feel "high".
While both hemp and marijuana contain CBD and THC, hemp has a much higher concentration of CBD and a much lower concentration of THC (less than 0.3%) than it's cousin marijuana.

Hemp is one of the greatest, most important
substances of our nation
